Waheed Omer

Ambassador Waheed Omer is a Senior Advisor with the firm’s South Asia Practice, where he advises clients in strategic communication initiatives that support corporate objectives and foster stakeholder engagement. 

 

Mr. Omer brings deep experience and in-depth knowledge of Afghanistan. He has held numerous high-level government positions, recently serving as Executive Director of Strategic Communications. In this role, he led a cabinet portfolio that oversaw the government's overall strategic communications and public affairs, including the President of Afghanistan's press and communication offices. He was previously Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Italy and permanent representative to the United Nations in Rome. He was also the Deputy Director of the Cabinet Office, the Director of Afghan Government’s Monitoring and Evaluation Office, and the Chief Organizing Officer of the Afghanistan Pakistan Peace Jirga.  

 

Most recently, Mr. Omer worked as a Senior Manager for Site Affairs and Communications for Pfizer’s Research and Development division. Earlier in his career, Mr. Omer was Managing Partner at PAHNA Group, a communications and public relations firm in Kabul.  

 

Mr. Omer is a well-known public figure in Afghanistan. He resigned from his role as Spokesperson and Director of Communications in 2011 to help mobilize young Afghan politicians for the 2014 presidential elections. He has also been interviewed by national and international media on ongoing political issues in the region. 

 

Mr. Omer holds an M.A. from in Political Science from the University of York and a B.A. in International Studies and Diplomacy. He speaks both official languages of Afghanistan, Persian and Pashto. He is proficient in Urdu/Hindi and German.
