Takeo Mori
Takeo Mori is a Senior Advisor with the East Asia & Pacific practice at ASG, where he draws on decades of diplomatic experience in Asia, Europe, and North America to advise clients.
Mr. Mori has had a distinguished 40-year career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Mr. Mori held numerous posts within the Foreign Ministry, culminating with the position of Vice Minister—the most senior career diplomatic post. As Vice Minister, he was integrally involved in preparations for the historic Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Leaders’ Meeting in August 2023 at Camp David. During his tenure as Director General for North America, Mr. Mori was responsible for preparations for President Obama’s visit to Hiroshima and bilateral meetings between Prime Minister Abe and President Trump.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Mori was posted at numerous Japanese Embassies around the world, including in Germany, Singapore, and the United States. As Economic Minister at the Japanese Embassy in Washington D.C., he frequently met with U.S. companies to help them address market access and business concerns. Throughout his career, he represented Japan in numerous important bilateral and multilateral fora and trade negotiations, including at the G-7, the East Asia Summit, and as chief negotiator for automotive trade in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations.
Mr. Mori earned his BA in law from Tokyo University.
