August 9, 2021 (Washington, D.C.) – Dentons Global Advisors - Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG), leaders in global strategic advisory, announced the addition of two new Senior Advisors today. General (retired) John Abizaid joins as Senior Advisor with the Middle East & North Africa practice, and Jason Hyland joins as Senior Advisor with the East Asia & Pacific practice.
General John Abizaid served as the United States Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 2019 until January 2021. He earlier retired from the U.S. Army as a four-star General after 34 years of active service, including as Commander of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), where he directed operations across the Horn of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East. General Abizaid was the first Annenberg Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institute, and served as the Distinguished Chair of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point. In 2016, he was appointed a member of President Obama’s Intelligence Advisory Board. He has been a board member of USAA, Virtu Financial, and RPM International, and has served a number of additional firms as a senior advisor on leadership development and international business strategy.
“General Abizaid is highly respected and trusted in the United States, across the Middle East, and beyond, with a perspective and reputation built during decades of distinguished service at the highest levels of government,” said Madeleine K. Albright, the 64th U.S. Secretary of State and firm chair. “We know our clients will benefit from his one-of-a-kind expertise, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
Jason Hyland has led a distinguished career in both the U.S. diplomatic corps and the private sector. Most recently, he was the President and Representative Officer of MGM Resorts Japan. Previously, Mr. Hyland served as the Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, where he oversaw U.S. participation in the G7 summit, President Barack Obama’s historic visit to Hiroshima, and the revision of the Guidelines for U.S.-Japan Defense Cooperation. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hyland served at the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, Australia as Deputy Chief of Mission; at the U.S. Consulates General in Sapporo and Fukuoka, Japan; and in Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S Department of State. He has particular subject matter expertise in the areas of cybersecurity, innovation, crisis management, Asian security and trade policy, and international tourism. Mr. Hyland has worked and studied in Asia for more than 21 years, including 18 in Japan.
“Jason has expertly navigated complex policy and business landscapes throughout his career, with proven success in both government and the private sector,” said Meredith Miller, Principal and co-lead of the firm’s East Asia & Pacific practice. “We are thrilled to welcome him and his deep knowledge of Japan and the region to the team.”
