Antonio Ortiz-Mena on the USMCA in 2022
ASG's Antonio Ortiz-Mena spoke with Politico to share his prediction for U.S. trade in the year ahead:
Fights ahead with Mexico and Canada: Tensions will remain over automotive rules of origin, U.S. incentives for the purchase of union-made, U.S. e-vehicles, softwood lumber, solar panels and possibly some agricultural exports. While USMCA labor disputes that arise will be promptly resolved, some of the issues mentioned above will not be resolved via good offices, conciliation or mediation, and will reach a panel stage. USMCA has a number of mechanisms to resolve disputes: the mechanisms will work well and governments will abide by panel reports. The agreement will hold.
