ASG's Alexander Gabuev spoke to the Octavian Report on Moscow's perspective on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
"There are several explanations [for Russia's mistakes since the war began]. The overarching one that’s not covered enough in the media is their obsession with Ukraine and their basic misjudgment of its importance for Russian foreign policy. They perceive that without dominance over Ukraine, Russia cannot be a great power, and that a Ukraine closely associated with NATO—even if it remains outside the alliance—is a national security threat."
