Tucker Van Aken
Tucker Van Aken is a Director on the China practice at ASG, where he helps clients understand China’s political and economic environment and develop the corporate and government relations strategies necessary to succeed in a complex political economy. Mr. Van Aken also serves a client in ASG’s broader East Asia practice. Prior to joining ASG, Mr. Van Aken was an Analyst on the Equity-Linked Origination team at Credit Suisse in New York City, where he priced and executed derivatives transactions and convertible bond deals across industry groups.
Previously, Mr. Van Aken was a Fulbright Fellow based in Chongqing, China, where he studied the political economy of local policy implementation with a focus on firm-state and central-local relationships and industrial energy policy. During his time in China, Mr. Van Aken built relationships with local academics and government officials and collected extensive data on industrial policy performance. His work has been published in both peer-reviewed journals and popular publications, including the Journal of Contemporary China, Public Administration Review, The Diplomat, The China Environment Series, and China Development Brief. Mr. Van Aken also received a Critical Language Enhancement Award from the State Department to complete additional Chinese language studies in Harbin.
Mr. Van Aken graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.A. in International Politics and Economics with highest honors from Middlebury College. During that time he conducted field research in Beijing, Xi'an, and Chongqing on a grant from the Mellon Foundation. Mr. Van Aken is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
He is based in Washington, D.C.
