ASG Co-Chair Carlos Gutierrez Discusses U.S. Trade Policy with Cuba

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Lands in Havana

Today, U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker arrives in Cuba to jumpstart talks on the policies that will inform how Americans do business with the neighboring country.

She is the second member of President Obama's cabinet to visit the country. Pritzker's role within the agency appears to be shifting—once an enforcer of sanctions, Pritzker is now a facilitator of trade and investment.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Carlos Gutierrez, served as U.S. secretary of commerce from 2005 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. Guiterrez, currently co-chair of the Albright Stonebridge Group, says the time for talking trade with Cuba is now.
